This crowdfunding seeks to support the partners of the project "To be there", which in the time of Covid-19 have seen their activities reduced. “To Be There” works to keep the international community well informed and aware of the reality of Palestine and its people. To do so, they organize political tours, meetings with organizations and families, olive harvest and other activities.
To Be There is a Palestinian initiative that was launched by few activists and educators who believe in the importance of helping people around the world to better understand the reality imposed on the Palestinians by the state of Israel. The mission of this initiative has always evolved around the development and delivery of programmes which educate, inform and raise awareness, contributing to the realisation of peace, justice, equality, freedom and democracy; building a society where law prevails in the interest of all its citizens living and previously living in historic Palestine including its refugees expelled from their homes in 1948.
The aim of our campaign is to keep this project alive, especially by contributing to the rent and expenses arising from the social space they use as their headquarters in Beit Sahour (West Bank).

One of the distinguishing features of this campaign is its close collaboration with Palestinian communities. The organization "To Be There" provides information and training on the current situation in Palestine, working in a network with the social and political projects that are developed there. Through their activity they make visible, dismantle and denounce the human rights violations committed by the State of Israel by giving voice to the Palestinian civilian and organized population.
In addition to the mobility restrictions already imposed by the state of Israel, Palestinians in the West Bank have seen restrictions on the Covid-19 emergency situation imposed too. Without the possibility of mobility and receiving few visits, "To Be There" continues to operate almost without financial income, which hinders its activity and we want to work on preparing its headquarters, "The Citadel" properly.
The Citadel is a building that was built between 1860 and 1865 and is one of the oldest 3 buildings in the town of Beit Sahour. It was built as a school and a multipurpose hall then. To Be There’s idea was pretty simple, revive the original objective and bring it back to its origins as an educational space and a multipurpose hall. As an inspiring space The Citadel was also supposed to be the center of all To Be There’s indoors activities as well as the different educational and cultural events. That project almost collapsed because of the Covid-19 crisis, but collapsing is just too easy.
The commissioning of all the equipment requires about 12,000 euros, and while "To Be there" has already covered a small part of it, we want to contribute some of the income we could have contributed if we had made the brigades (that we were forced to cancel because of Covid-19).
This project aims to those who want to stand up for justice, anti-racism and the defense of human rights. We are moved by social responsibility to end colonialism and oppression in Palestine, questioning the privileges and capacity for change we have of our premises. It is the Palestinians themselves who registers the importance of our involvement.
"Brigades Hurriya" are a group of people who organize as a horizontal and assembly group to show solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian people. We organize talks and generate materials to raise awareness about the situation in Palestine.
Every year we organize brigades of solidarity with Palestine. Our intention is to know the reality there, and then to spread and raise awareness about the occupation and human rights violations that Israel exercises on the Palestinian people. We have an anti-racist perspective and our work would not make sense without our Palestinian counterpart, the "To Be There" project.
In addition, we are part of the Coalició Prou Complicitat amb Israel, a space for coordinating social movements, groups, organizations and people who fight in Catalonia to break the complicity of institutions and companies Catalans in the violation of the rights of the Palestinian people, promoting the solidarity of the citizens with Palestine, raising awareness and offering them ways of action.
“To Be There” works to keep the international community well informed and aware first hand of the reality of Palestine and its people. By supporting your project you stand on the side of justice, anti-racism and the defense of human rights. Ending colonialism and oppression in Palestine is everyone's responsibility. As Desmond Tutu made clear: “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor".
